The first of our Halloween trick or treat recipes is a recipe for Creepy Crawly Ice Cream Cups, actually spiders the kids will love

What You Need:

  • 8 individual graham cracker tart shells
  • 8 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 16 chocolate cream filled cookies, crumbled
  • 16 red M&M candy pieces
  • 16 pieces of black shoestring licorice

How to Make It:

  1. Place the shells on a baking sheet.
  2. Add 1 scoop of ice cream to each of the shells.
  3. Crumble the cookies into a mixing bowl.
  4. Sprinkle the cookies over the ice cream to cover it well.
  5. Place the filled shells in the freezer for 30 minutes or until the ice cream has hardened.
  6. Remove the shells and press 2 M&M’s into the front of each scoop of ice cream to resemble eyes.
  7. Cut the licorice strips into fourths.
  8. Press 8 strips of licorice into each ice cream scoop to form the spider’s legs.
  9. Return to the freezer until ready to serve.

These simple little spiders are so easy make and the kids will love them.  Use any flavor of ice cream you like and use different colors of M&M’s for the eyes if you prefer.

Halloween Banana Bites


What You Need:

  • 4 bananas, peeled and cut into bite size chunks
  • 2 t Halloween sprinkles
  • 2/3 C semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2/3 C milk chocolate frosting

How to Make It:

  1. Cover a serving plate with wax paper.
  2. Place the banana chunks, cut side down onto the wax paper.
  3. Place a toothpick into each banana chunk.
  4. Place the banana chunks into the freezer for 20 minutes or until hard.
  5. Place the Halloween sprinkles into a small cup and set aside.
  6. Dump the chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl.
  7. Microwave the chips on high for 60 seconds.
  8. Remove the melted chips and stir until smooth.
  9. Place the frosting into the bowl with the melted chip.
  10. Stir the mixture until blended together well.
  11. Place in the microwave on high for 15 seconds.
  12. Remove and stir until the mixture becomes a dip consistency.
  13. Remove the bananas from the freezer.
  14. Dip each banana into the melted chocolate mixture until completely covered.
  15. Sprinkle each dipped banana with the Halloween sprinkles.
  16. Place the banana chunks back onto the wax paper.
  17. Put the all the dipped banana chunks back into the freezer for 1 hour or until the chocolate has completely hardened.

If the chocolate frosting mixture begins to harden before you have all the bananas coated place it back into them microwave and heat on high for 10 to 15 seconds or until soft. Be sure to stir the mixture before you resume the dipping process.

Well, at least the cashews in this recipe, the last of this series of Halloween trick or treat recipes, can be called healthy!

What You Need:

  • 1 (12 oz.) pkg. semisweet chocolate chips
  • 4 1/2 t canola oil
  • 40 large marshmallows
  • 20 Popsicle sticks
  • 1/2 C of orange sprinkles
  • 1/2 C of black sprinkles
  • 1 C of cashews, ground fine

How to Make It:

  1. Line a baking sheet with wax paper
  2. Place the chips and oil into a small microwave safe bowl.
  3. Microwave on high for 30 seconds then stir until smooth.
  4. If the chips have not completely melted return the bowl to the microwave at 15 second intervals, stirring after each time, until smooth and creamy.
  5. Place 2 marshmallows onto each Popsicle stick.
  6. Toss the orange and black sprinkles together in shallow bowl.
  7. Dip the marshmallows into the melted chocolate, covering them well and allowing any excess to drip back into the bowl.
  8. Roll the coated marshmallows through the sprinkles, coating them well.
  9. Roll them through the ground cashews.
  10. Place the marshmallows onto the wax paper standing up.
  11. Place in the refrigerator to chill for 1 hour or until firm.

Kids will get a real kick out of these ghost pops.  Any type of ground nut can be used or can be omitted if you prefer.  If you can’t find black sprinkles use white or chocolate instead.

Makes 20 pops
